Water studies examine the physical and geochemical characteristics of aquifers, the quantity, quality and integrated management of groundwater and surface water, the effects of climate change and protection of water supplies. The water program also involves monitoring groundwater levels, computer simulation to assist water management and integrating geochemistry with studies of groundwater geology.

The Division has been instrumental in helping the state's natural resources districts prepare water management plans required by law. And, through a program with the U.S. Geological Survey, it supplies data from more 4,500 test holes, drilled in every Nebraska county in the state, to assist the analysis of Nebraska's water.

Water Survey Resources

The following information was originally developed within the Conservation and Survey Division. Due to the merger with the School of Natural Resources (SNR), the information is now housed on the SNR web site. For your convenience, links are provided here:

Other On-Line Data Bases

  • Nebraska Oil and Gas Data Base - Administered by the Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission. The Conservation and Survey Division (CSD), now part of the School of Natural Resources, provided the stratigraphic information for this data base.
  • Nebraska Registered Groundwater Wells Data Base - Administered by the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. CSD was responsible for automating the geologic logs portion of this data base.
